My Intel 160GB SSD 25X detect as only 8MB wsohplvr Jun 3rd, 12, 01:28 PM #1

HELP: I bought a SSD from a forumer here, which give 3 months warranty as it was removed from some sets. so no warranty. I only try to use last week for a friend new setup, but the SSD was put on PortO as boot disk, when Win7 bootup to install, detect the SSD only as 8MB disk.
I google check and found that it had to flash the firmware, I download from Intel site the new firmware 1.92 and also SSD Toolbox 3.0.3. the SSD was able to flash to new firmware 2CV102M3, but the serial number change to ChanCEConflict. and still detected as 8MB disk for Computer Management or try install Win7 also detect as 8MB disk.
I try to use the Intel SSD Toolbox to Secure Erase, it said it was locked and had to remove power plug on SSD then continue, but it stop at 40% and hang there. I try Secure Erase as some said it will revert to factory condition, but it seem not to work.
1) Is there any other method to erase the SSD to revert to original size 160GB
2) or is there any other way to re install the firmware, as I try the Intel boot CD for firmware update, it detect and said the SSD is already in latest firmware.
I cannot RMA because the seller said it was OEM standard. and I email Intel also no reply yet.

Seems like this bug is a widespread problem among the 160gb x25-m series. I'm using the 80gb and touchwood it has been working fine since last october.

You can try HDD erase : Erasing an SSD

if it still doesn't work, I think most likely it needs a replacement as I have not come across a viable solution online which eliminates this issue.
It pays to check the trade rep of a buyer/seller befire dealing...

The guy try to help cannot do it, so only solution is the seller in this forum, could help me to RMA as Intel replied that it is HP set, have to go back to HP to claim warranty, so I think this sellers sell so many of them must be the HP retailer or agent.

yah email their contact support they reply that it is HP OEM product, have to go back to HP to claim, but then the seller who sell here understand that and he give 3 months personal warranty, but it is over as I got from him in October 2011, but honestly I didn't use until last week. then ohh the SSD is 8MB, ha-ha, bad luck, trying to use migoto link to erase, don't know it will work or not.
reply from Intel as below:

Hi William,

Thank you for writing to Intel Customer Support. The SSDwith model number SSDSA2M160G2HP is found to be an OEM version from HP. Please contact HP for technical and warranty support.

You may refer to the Intel warranty FAQ for the SSD at http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hp.../CS-030158.htm

Hope the above information help. An online survey may be sent to you. If you are satisfied with our support, please score items with 5. We will value your feedback and we will use it to make our services better. Thank you.

Best Regards,

Sharon

Maybe it's not even a sandy bridge mobo as the bug only affects that chipset?

Yah it is Asus P5KR P35 chipset. then also test on server 5000x (greencreek) board the same thing detect as 8MB.
I still think the only way to RMA is to have HP set, then contact HP to RMA. anyone have HP set that use the same SSD that I have, willing to pay for the service. unless HP have all the items that installed have all serial number of all item specified. ha-ha then it is out of luck liao.

You may want to try to update the firmware from Intel website : http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...&DwnldID=18363

Read the release note, it says fix the BAD_CTX 13x Error (8MB capacity)

If you haven't heard already, the 257.15 Beta ForceWare driver set from NVIDIA accidently had the ability for ATI users to again use an NVIDIA card as a second to do PhysX.

Thanks! I have already flash to the latest firmware as your link and mention above.
btw I try migoto's link and make a CD of HDDErase 3.3, it also cannot work, I disable sata drive and use the Jmiron controller, the flash display just blink and I wait for 6 hours then reboot to adjust the bios back to original, but the SSD still same 8MB

Ok, nvm, if you don't mind there is another alternative to HDDErase, that is using Gparted.
Check this out : Guide Alternative to HDDerase (Gparted) compatible with AHCI !!

Hope that this will help.
No harm trying.
Best of luck

I am not an IT, so not good with Linux, and I try the GPART as recommended by sirchua's link
.I try as the thread said but cannot work for me, maybe it had to be working SSD, but just reformat to origin factory standard.
not good in DOS, so type as thread below
hdparm --security-enchanced-erase NULL /dev/sda and it end up
hdparm -get/set hard disk parameters version v9.39 by Mark Lord
Usage: hdparm [option] [devices....]
then the list of option from AaBb............Zz

try also the other guy said must set password also don't work, so I think confirm is dead disk, i also try some of the option like trim-sector-ranges also cannot, said missing sector.

now the only hope is someone can help to RMA if he have the HP set with the same type of SSD as mine. or the seller can help, he didn't reply till now, maybe he left Singapore.
