can cmos checksum error be related to cpu fault? HootDah Apr 8th, 08, 05:37 PM #1 (permalink)
just got back my board from a distro recently after 2mths of 'servicing' booted up and the checksum error appear still. ignore it. did some bios setting etc and ok it booted up fine and work for the next few days till it doesnt boot up or will shut itself down within 15mins of usage.

as it was the same problem in a whole new rig, except for the cpu. it kinda runs down to 2 suspect.i tested all my indivual new parts working fine on another rig but as i switched to amd,i cant test the cpu or board. so wanted to ask if there is a possiblilty the cpu is faulty as most cmos errors are due to mobo isssue right?

1) CMOS checksum error is normal after RMA, because they may take out the battery and hence bios has reset. Once you go into bios and save the settings, it should not appear again. If it still appear, most likely battery bad (CR2032). Change the battery. If still appear, Bios chip bad... need to change the chip in sim lim back alley....

2) shut down within 15 minutes usage -> did you put the thermal paste when you re-attached the heat sink/fan ? or you re-use the thermal paste on the bottom of heatsink ? Not advisable to re-use.. will spoilt the cpu if overheated...
if you have used fresh thermal-paste, most likely motherboard board bad (maybe faulty temp sensor)
