What is RAM latency? gameboyz May 2nd, 08, 03:30 PM #1 (permalink)
Uh... is it the number of wasted clock cycles of the proc's FSB or the RAM's?

i googled for it... all is about "Ram latency: does it matter" etc... some that show ram latency make me even more confused

Cheers,
gamebyz

Technically, the lower the latency (also called timings), the faster the ram. HOWEVER, the difference is so minuscule that you are better off spending the extra money to get a faster CPU or something.

I bought the less expensive Corsair XMS2 2GB kit (DDR800) and it was labeled with 5-5-5-18 timings (or latency). I set it to run at 4-4-4-12 and it works just fine. Also, I benchmarked before and after, and well, I posted the results on my website:

from what i know
RAM MHz is the speed and there is a cycle... the latency is the lag between cycles

some one confirm...

667MHz is the speed of the ram

hit high way 667 "km/hr" but in 1 cycle there is a start and a end

but as the cycle is repeated... there is a time lapse between 1 cycle to the next.. that is latency???
