Just built up new rig but mobo cannot POST xianxee Sep 15th, 08, 04:09 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi gurus,

need your help. I just built a new rig:

Asus M3A78-EM (AMG 780 chipset)
AMD x2 6000
Kingston DDR2 800 1Gb x 2
WD 500 gb
Vantec 450w
CM CAC - T05 (case)

After fixing all the components, I switched on the power, can see all the fans whirring and onboard mobo power light on BUT no beeps heard and screen remain blank, where did I go wrong?

I tried inserting the chassis pins in different positions but it didn't help, I switched the CD and HDD around Sata 1 & 2, the only thing I did not do is to re-insert the rams, please assist urgently, thanks!

Well, I would try using just one stick of your memory until you get this working. If it doesn't post with one, try the other.

Are you using onboard video or a separate videocard? If you are using a separate card, try using the onboard for now and remove the extra card.

Also, definitely try resetting the CMOS.

Thanks for your reply, already tried with the mem stick, using onboard video and also had reset the CMOS, nothing works.

Sigh, will meddle with it tonight and if still can't POST, will bring down to shop to test, sianzzz

you might need a graphics card if the onboard is buggy

try to force yourself into BIOS.

like keep pressing F2 or Delete or which ever key this mb uses.

once in BIOS all would be well.

then you make sure you go fix the graphics to onboard lor.

Suggest unscrew board and run on tabletop on foam.

Tried all the usual troubleshooting.

Worked for me. Suddenly can POST. After that A-OK.

Must have tightened screws too tight hahaha

Another way I used to fix this was run without RAM and graphics card keyboard or mouse... like forcing an error. Once it starts to beep and make noise usually OK.

Turn off your power
Remove both rams
Reset cmos
put back 1 stick on the first slot
then plug back power in and turn on, should POST
then turn off and put in the other rams in appropriate slots.
