What If you Broke the plastic legs of Intel Original LGA 775 HSF? ReporterSG Sep 23rd, 08, 08:57 PM #1 (permalink)
Well why bother? Some might say..
Well, i need a ultra low profile HSF for my HP Slim Line Casing.
And the Intel Celeron Dual Cores HSF is just the right guy.. I Broke it.. -.-' or for those whom lazy to go SLS buy another can save some $$

This comes handy if you have these items in your tool Box ^^

Items Needed:
- 4 Screws
- 4 Nuts
- 4 Rubber Silencer (Those commonly use for Mounting Casing Fans)
- 3pcs x 4sets of plastic washer.
- 4 Metal Washer.

Prep-Work : Remove all Plastic Legs

Step 1
Put 2 plastic washer onto a Single Screw. Den Fit It Below Your Mobo.

Step 2
Fix in the Rubber Silencer on the Top Side of Mobo.

Step 3
Place your HSF onto the Screws.

Step 4
Put on the Metal Washer 1st, den follow by a Plastic 1.

Lastly
Fix on all your nuts and your Final Product will look like this.

Hope it help those really poor boys that cannot afford a new HSF

*Pm me if u guys come in suddenly and need to ask questions, dun always come in here to monitor this thread*

Very good improvisation cos push pin sucks so one might want to do this even if nothing is broken. Where/what size/place to get these parts and is it possible to find suitable wing nuts to make it a tool free job?

I was also wondering if it was possible to mod these low height Intel HSF into GPU coolers as well.

Good guide for us! Actually i am looking to DIY a LGA775 to AM2/939/754 backplate converter. Then screw on top the bracket for AMD HSF hehe so one can use AMD HSFs on LGA775. As a system builder i 100% agree with MacClipper - the push pins mechanism is awful and crude!

If someone can try the Xigmatek Crossbow mounting kit on the stock Intel HSF, it may be even better cos it comes with a metal backplate as well - ~$12 SLS.

Not sure if it fits well though but a bolt thru' mechanism with backplate is ze very best.

Great job.
P.S. Do note that if your modify this to your working Intel Cooler, you will be voiding the warranty.
