Asus P5Q Deluxe users, pls come in naro Nov 19th, 08, 09:09 AM #1 (permalink)
hey guys,

My specs are as follows:
Intel QX6700
Asus P5Q Deluxe
4 x 1GB DDR2 Kingston rams
Inno3D 8600GT

The Asus mobo comes with 3 x PCIe-x16 slots. And PCIe-x16 slots 1 and 2 are for CrossFire.

Click the image to open in full size.

Slot 1: Max x16
Slot 2: Max x8
Slot 3: Max x4

I have my gfx in slot 1. And I was trying out my Adaptec 4805SAS which is an x8 lane PCIe SAS Raid card. When I put it in slot 2, it failed to boot. And when I inserted it into slot 3, the card booted until the time when I was about to install Windows, it mentioned that there was an error and failed to install Windows.

Therefore, I would like to check if there is anyone who has managed to get a Raid card to boot from Slot 2.

Also, has anyone tried to start an x8 lane Raid controller on the x4 lane Slot 3?

Thank you.

Tough luck when it comes to supporting relatively niche cards, took Asus many BIOS revisions to get such cards working on their more mature mobos. Prob. have to wait till Asus gets the BIOS right for newer mobos like yours.

Best email Asus to kpkb and pray that they bother to take note of you.

By right, the SAS card can work on an x4 lane. I think there might be something wrong with my SAS card.

I just upgraded to the P5Q Deluxe and my HP SmartArray P400 RAID controller disappears when the PC is rebooted! Anyone with RAID controller issues on P5Q?

Have you specify where your RAID card is located (which slot) cos I remembered that if U put a GFX at slot 2/3, U need to set something in BIOS not sure if that applies to RAID cards.

What do you need to set in the BIOS? I got a RAID card on slot 1 and GFX on slot 2. It's working so long as I don't reboot. Once I reboot, the RAID card BIOS will disappear. Need to power off and on again.
