it happened recently to my friend's laptop. at first the horizontal lines started when he was already in desktop. after that it got worse and started at the boot-up screen. now he can't even turn on his laptop.

any possible reason for this? and is it worth to send it for repair?

if the lines are getting more and more each day, the LCD is gone case already. Now that he cannot even turn on his laptop, its highly likely the LCD gone already. Unless its under warranty, if you wanna repair the LCD, it might cost around $400 to $600.

Static line is LCD problem, but seem like his friend's LCD line is not static which may be due to video card problem, especially if he got a problem nvidia chip (remember nvidia chip high lead packaging problem).

How old is the laptop? If it's out of warranty but less than 3 year old, it might be worth it to fix it.

alrighty thanks guys. i guess both problems lead to high costs here. the laptop is close to 3 years already and sometimes i feel its not worth it for him to keep on repairing though the lines are occuring for the first time.
