Qns on Raid 0 and SSD HDD cochran Jul 19th, 09, 11:27 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi there,

I'm tempted to try the SSD HDD.

Currently my system is using 2 x seagate 7200.10 320GB HDD at Raid 0. And thinking of getting 1 SSD maybe the Intel 80GB hdd for my OS. Can it still be able to get at $499 or lower?

Can i check. Wats the pro and con in term of performance between the 2?
Of cos i know SSD have no sound and movement.

Which write and read speed is faster? I'm sure the SSD access speed will be the fastest.

Dun think there is any point for me to get the WD VelociRaptor hdd anymore rite?

Thanks.

Raptors are premium Desktop hard drive as SSD is performance based.

RAID0 on 7200rpm < 1 SSD

So far for cons for SSD i dont see it.
RAID0 for SSD will have highest significant difference then single SSD on Read Time. As for SSD seaktime is hands down. =)

Of course what do you really need. Mission Critical?

Thanks for the reply.

Cant really afford to get 2 ssd hdd for raid 0. as the price a bit high now.

So i will see big performance improvement fr raid 0 7200rpm to a ssd?

Nope, Dont feel a difference on 7200 rpm. I onyl raid 7200 on raid 1 or 5. RAID 0 is pointless.

If u want value for money performance, raptors =). High higher budget 15k SAS

As for value for money, Seagate just threw a little surprise for all. Quite tempted to buy a pair and see how well it works in RAID 0.

Seek is king, and the VR still reign supreme. Other than SSDs, no other consumer level HDD come close. You can't improve on seek timings by RAIDing multiple drives.

Thanks Booest. Just rang them. And still have some. was told price going to increase a bit.

The X25-M 80Gb have read of ard 250mb and write of ard 80mb.

Have checked other ssd like ocz. they have some with read of ard 230mb and write of 135mb.

As i'm quite blur on ssd. Is the intel SSD still the 'King'? Or can look at other ssd?

But checked with chamoxa. was told the ocz vertax at 60GB at ard $419. With 3 yr warranty also.

Now ocz also 3 yr warranty. Intel also 3 year rite? So warranty same same now lei.

Any other ssd below $500 to look at? I'm taking the Intel X25-M as the benchmark.
