The next day, it booted successfully to default voltage and frequency as it was previously overclocked. This overclock has been stable for over a year without problems so it struck me odd how this could suddenly happen. I reverted back to the old overclocked settings and it got stuck in the lights on/off state again. I discharged the PSU, turned it on again which managed to POST at default values again. Now I'm posting here with this computer.
Few things to note:
1. Suspecting that it was PSU problem, I measured the +5v and +12v lines through a 4 pin molex and it checked out fine. Should I also check the readings on the 24pin cable?
2. My motherboard bios has a revert to default feature that happens whenever it fails to boot, however, this time the problem seems to be so bad that it can't even revert.
System specs:
Intel C2D E4300
Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
Thermaltake Toughpower 750watts modular supply
2x Kingston valueram 667 1GB
2x Kingston hyperx 800 1GB
Asus 4870 DK 1GB
WD 640GB AAKS
Since I raise my voltage quite a bit with the overclock, I'm thinking the power supply could be the culprit when trying to output more power. My next main suspect would be the motherboard.. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Thanks!
