PC cannot boot up at all..is this becoz of power supply? mm88 Oct 29th, 09, 01:58 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi

My computer is pretty old (about 4-5yrs) so i am not surprised that it is completed dea on me. unforunately I was overseas when it happened. All i know now is that it totally cannot be power on at all. Is this becoz the power supply has died or which part might have cause this?

assuming it is power supply (or whichever part that might be), should I just replace the power supply or should i buy/build new CPU?

depends...

cost efficient way, buy a new PSU with a watt alot higher for ur next rig, then u power up and see it it boots, either way, if it fails, u still can use the PSU on the next rig, if it boots, u can use that PSU til the CPU dies.

i am about lazy to build a new rig again.. (not very good at it lah) considering buying laptop as a replacement but feel abit wasted with all my (SATA & IDE) HDDs i have - I know its cheap now but having to transfer the data, i abit sianz and new cheap DVD writer i recently replaced.

i wouldn't mind if someone out here would help me build a new multimedia rig for me, reusing some of my old parts (maybe my casing, HDD and DVD writer).

anyway, any recommendation for PSU to buy?

maybe go to SLS, some shops are willin to setup for u. It is only wat parts u want.

If u can advise on wat budget u are on, some guys here may be able to list items which suit your needs.

Maybe u cn let us know your budget, usage and wat u intend to reuse from your old com.

Love some of the VR guys here, they give great advices. i say SOME only.

4-5 yrs old com... time for an upgrade bah.

You can replace the minimum (mobo, cpu, ram & psu) depending on your current system spec and salvage the rest of the gear like your hdd, dvd casing etc..

Just did an upgrade for my friend by just changing the above 3 items with the old psu, machine runs fine so far.

cheers,

I did a quick check..hmm may not be PSU as it could still power up POST code. Initial code is 00. But whe I press power butto, it just changes to F. not F0 or F1 etc etc. just "F". anyone know wat this means?

You'll have to refer to your mobo instruction booklet for the post code error msg. what mobo is that you're having btw ?

I did refer to my mobo instruction - which is why i cant find what does F stand for. only got F0, F1 etc etc.

its a ABIT AN8 mobo.
