Charity: Setting up a computer laboratory for a school overseas peterpan777 Nov 2nd, 09, 07:00 PM #1 (permalink)
Dear Vrforummers,

It's been great learning from you guys.
I'm going up with a few other teachers to help an overseas kindergarten set up a computer lab in the spirit of charity. We want it to be sustainable, at least for the next 5 years. Just some quick questions:

-How do i go about setting up a computer laboratory overseas WITH internet access? They claim to have modems but i think those are the old slow-mo ones.

Here's what i have:
-a few computers (still gathering up to 5)
-a tight budget of say $200 and the ability to commit under $50 monthly to the kindergarten.
-manpower of 9 teachers
-vrforums

Let me know soon, thanks!

Petes

p.s. in fact, if i can talk to anyone over dinner or something (my treat) it'd be great!

Your 5 PCs - would they be spaced out in the learning area or side by side? If it is the formerr perhaps an ethernet modem + wifi router and USB wifi adapters for terminals would be easy Else a 5 port out modem with wired connection ought to be good to go Question is: $200 budget just to get internet connectivity or cost of balance of rigs @@

Thanks mate! Erm let's have them side by side. $200 for just internet connectivity. Is that enough? How does that sound?

hey peter! go for wired connection? might be easier to for them to replace the stuff too in the long run. the internet equipment and stuff get those common ones, so in the event if unfortunately it gets spoilt, it can be replaced easily. dont know much other than that, just trying to help.. lol!
