*** what problem can it be? *** savager Nov 4th, 09, 10:14 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi ppl,

got an irritating problem here. my com refuses to boot up at random times. Sometimes it boots up successfully ( if it does, it won't BSOD/hang/crash when i use it ), and sometimes it doesn't ( gives me a teeee-ti-ti sound, which i can't identify as any of the prominent error beeps from BIOS ). what can be the problem?

I've done the following :

- removed sound card
- swapped positions of both my ram modules
- put only one ram module @ slot 3
- boot with minimum devices [ only 1xhdd, 1xram, 1x gfx card ]

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, so i believe none of these parts that i've changed is faulty. only thing i've not tried is the motherboard, which i don't think is the prob, looking from the symptoms.

this problem came out long ago, like few months back.. and is still present now, but occurs on random days.
Another symptom is that my sata DVD drive loads for quite a while ( 20s ) before the beep sound occurs. if it were a IDE drive, i'd have thought it's the prob with the bus.

anyways, my specs are as follows. hope some guru can help out here.

- Intel e2160
- Gigabyte ds3L
- X1950Pro radeon
- 2 x 1Gb Corsair DDR2 667
- LG GH20 DVD Writer SATA
- 1 x 320Gb WD 'K' Series SATA
- 1 x 160Gb Hitachi T7250 SATA
- 460W Enhance PSU.

Hairyworm : any idea what do the numbers represent?

e.g. 1-3-3, 1-2-2 etc. found in Phoenix Bios section.
