1GB or 2GB RAMS? smellybeans Jan 31st, 06, 12:10 AM #1 (permalink)
should i go for 1GB ram (single stick) / 512 x 2 RAM / 2GB ram??

am a confused soul, so i would appreciate some comments ..

2GB would set me back by 300+ but i'm wondering, just do i really need the 2GB power?

not at this point in time. i upgraded cause got the suang factor only. if not i wouldve got the OCZ Platinum Rev 2 V1.0s... but anyway, the difference is only noticable when you play bf2 at like max settings and all, its also noticable if u multitask alot, like me....or you have lag phobia on your desktop ...also like me

anyway just get 512x2 if you got a tight budget.

well u gotta state functions. if no money and maybe next time need ram intensive applications ... then 1 stick of 1gb. if not, 2x512mb. if money ain't a problem .... 2x1gb should be good.

what i would recommend s 1gb 1 stick ... see whether u still need more next time or not. if need then upgrade.

hmm well i don't think ill be using any ram intensive apps..

AUTOCAD counted anot ar? is it ram intensive? because i'll probably be using it for school work.. i won't be doing video encoding and such.. mostly heavy BT-ing and internet surfing..
also playing lotsa games..

anyway , i already have a 512MB CORSAIR ram already.. so i just have to get another stick if im going the 512 x 2 way..

1Gb Kit should be more than enough for most of our current apps...

2Gb Kit is somewhat more overkill ATM but by then...no one will be using DDR1 therefore wait until M2 comes before you buy DDR1 RAMs

hmm so you mean that i should wait till M2 arrives then everyone would be using DDR2 by then, so prices for DDR1 rams will drop right?

yeah sounds logical! thanks for bringing up this point!

btw, is it recommended for me to get another stick of 512mb to make it 1GB?

It's unlikely that DDR1 prices will drop as it's more expensive to make DDR1 compared to DDR2. Therefore by the time AM2 arrives, RAM manufacturers would be ramping up DDR2 production and decreasing DDR1 production which may most likely lead to even higher prices.

The only place where DDR1 prices may drop is in 2nd hand sales :laugh5: .
Be an ethical overclocker, don't RMA stuff you've broken, it just drives prices up for us honest people.
