Building htpc kaze892 Mar 18th, 10, 03:22 PM #1

Building a htpc but i dunno wat to get, thinking of recycling some of the hardware from my previous pc.Will be used for mostly movies and some gaming
My requirements are:
- Small form factor, able to put on top/next to my amp
- Enough processing power to play back video and some gaming
- able to support my 42" hdtv(planning to upgrade to 50"++)
- Good video playback
- Optical out to my hts
- Quiet and low temp
- Easy software interface and input

My Pc current spec are:
EP45-UD3P (confirm nid to change, too huge)
xeon x3550
HIS 4890 1GB
Corsair 1066-4gkit
Cooler master v8 (confirm nid to change, too huge)
Cooler master 600w igreen psu (confirm nid to change, too huge)
3.5" 500gb seagate hdd

Any help would be appreciated
thanks

CM 101 for ur CPU cooler or Shuriken Rev. B. Both low enough to fit into a petit casing.
This HTPC purpose built MB looks good:ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Maybe use a passive cooling Gfx card such as 43XX instead.

thx for the reply

The HTPC purpose built MB looks good but i`m thinking of reusing my x3550.So i can only stick LGA775 MB for nw
might consider on Shuriken Rev. B or just stick to stock hsf
if i dun use 4890 wat else do u suggests?
if dwngrade it scare cannot support my hdtv, like last time my 8800gt cannot support my hdtv.
nw tat u mention it 4890 do look kinda big

For Gfx the XFX5450 512MB@90 is passively cooled,so no noise. But if ur afraid u need the juice to play games maybe a 5670? I'm building a HTPC from my parts too and so far from my search the best price for a small single slot card with enough power would be 5670 512MB@149. But if you can squeeze it in a Sapphire 5750@179 is a steal. These cards are future proof if you think of using DirectX 11,but if not the 45XX and 46XX cards are more than enough.

Wat is the minimum requirement for gfx tat can support 42" with 1080 resolution?
4890 would seem too big if i were to choose a small casing.
is there any nice casing to recommend?nid a black colour casing to suit my amp colour

There are other cases out there to choose from,go shopping at SLS and maybe you'll find the one ur looking for...
