Note: This is not a post on piracy, this is about the problem of the number of activations that a window 7 / Vista license COA, especially a OEM one. If you are like me, you may do a re-install of the window operating system quite often, because you want to refresh it, you installed too many crapware/testware/fun programs and it feel 'slow'.

But for people with OEM license, or upgrade XP to win 7 license, then once you re-install, your COA may not be able to be activated again even when it is genuine. This is because OEM version can be activated only once, retail version multiple times etc.

To solve this, go download ABR or ABRBeta (for window 7) from ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us

Run the backup program and it will generate 2 files and keep the whole folder in a safe place. The next time you reinstall window 7, just run the restore program to put back the activation. Note: You should do this only on the SAME machine with the SAME COA.

This way, you don't have to face the problem of Microsoft message 'your copy of xxxx has been activated too many times'

will test for windows 7 soon..it just what im looking for...want to format like hell...activation prob makes me hesitate....

Just get the Windows 7 OEM master keys list if you own a branded laptop or PC. The BIOS will contain the appropriate SLIC table info to automatically activate Windows 7. Obviously, this doesn't work for a normal custom build.

Before you do that, use window 7 to burn a image of your current setup so in case failure you can still go back to the crappy situation (ha ha).
