Tan Chong officially brings in GT-R… to Singapore

August 17, 2009 at 8:36 am

After letting the grey importers milk the GT-R like crazy for a while (over 200 registered on the road so far), the Nissan GT-R is now officially in Singapore through official Nissan importer Tan Chong. The Singaporean GT-R goes for S$299,500 which is a tad pricier than the grey importer’s price tags which hover in the region of S$250k.

Now what does that mean for Malaysians? Will Tan Chong bring in the GT-R here officially too, complete with a proper manufacturer warranty? Hopefully yes, but if not, at least Malaysian owners will probably be able to settle any issues with their cars at an official GT-R-trained Nissan service center (Tan Chong Bukit Timah Road) in Singapore. The other benefit of being an official import is that the car’s menu systems are all in English and it does not have a speed limiter.

For now if you still want a Nissan sportscar with an official manufacturer warranty you can check out the recently launched Nissan 370Z. Only 0.1 liters difference in displacement but oh what a difference the two turbos and the all-wheel drive makes!

At that price most people will go for a PI. A few months ago, I was offered a brand new top of the range GTR for around 200K. That is almost a 100k difference.

I believe there's a recent hike in insurance premium for GTR. 3k-6k after NCD...

of course, if you've the money for such a car, the insurance will not be an issue

Does the PI have the ability to service GTRs?

Buy from PI if you intend to mod, because after that you'll always go for part upgrades/maintainence at your workshop liao ma

Makes no sense to get from AD.

Same applies to any car

Last I checked, the GTR was such a ridiculously closed system that mods are either ridiculously expensive, or hardly beneficial to the car.

The R35 is no longer a backyard engineer's vehicle where everything is bolt on and bolt in, but rather, is a high tech tool which requires the expertise of trained engineers.

It takes money and time for TC to train engineers and import the servicing equipment, but with a 280k investment, its definitely worth it having agent support for your car.

i think the AD GTR comes with English menu but PI's all Japanese characters.. not sure if you can change langauge for the PI car....

But 280k car... better buy AD haha.... you never know what will break *touchwood*

Theres a PI lambo spyder 500K+... but I not sure if any workshops actually can service a Lambo if theres any special tools needed... (Not sure, will update "IF" i own a lambo) haha
