Now now my good man, no need to incite the flames of belligerency...

Conflict has always existed because one/both parties have always been unable to understand and co-exist in tranquility. Misunderstandings are a common source of all problems.

care to do a test ?

format a drive, split into two equal partitions (one XP, one 7), then transfer the same copy of file to another disk (preferably your fastest)

see if it drops the speed or not

I would think 7 is slower by around 20-30% margin and set to slowly increase to maybe 10-20% slower over the next few years I think.

I don't have any concrete proof so this is just a hunch/guess.

lol... slowly increase is by perception or due to the constant spinning smoothing the hdd plates to run faster?

i think its most likely the driver with the controller issue. u guys downloaded the latest driver for your mobo?

In case you haven't noticed, Windows 7 handles files less efficiently as compared to Windows XP, the overall throughput is around 20-30% slower last I checked a month ago.

Set to increase to perhaps updates from the service pack or perhaps it is just going to remain like that.

Chances are, the drivers aren't going to increase the performance that significantly. This is entirely how the OS was designed. I guess you have to trade security and error handling for speed...

In any event, I have finally decided to take the plunge and triple boot RHE, XP X86, Win 7 X64 all the while knowing I will regret it >.>

Poor XP going to be reborn after six years of faithful service...

I think this way too but this is what challenge means.. there is always a learnin curve in everyone. If you try , you learn a lesson lor. After installing Win 7, I just feel so great and exploring not only internet but the future OS, LOL
