Windows 7, 7 Reasons to Stick with Windows XP babybearbear Oct 23rd, 09, 09:20 PM #1 (permalink)

1. Updating will be a huge pain

You do realize that you can't just pop in the disc and install the OS, right? Coming from XP, you're going to need to backup all of your data, format your hard drive, install a clean version of Windows 7, and then start from scratch, reinstalling all of your old programs—and that's assuming Old Faithful even meets the system requirements. Sounds delightful!

2. Software investment

How many programs do you have installed? You're going to have to reinstall all of them. Do you have all of your install discs handy? And I hope you haven't lost any CD Keys! Do you still have all of your downloaded installer executables? Feel like finding them or redownloading them? Because that's what you're going to have to do. And as far as new programs go, you do realize that almost all new software is still compatible with XP, right?

3. Most of what you use your computer for doesn't need an upgrade

What do you do on your computer? Surf the internet, maybe use some office programs? I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that Windows XP has been handling such duties just fine for you. So why upgrade? For shiny new aesthetics? For a fancier taskbar? For juggling 22 devices? You don't need that....

Aah, memories.

Back then people curse Windows XP and insist on Windows 98.

The reasons doesn't seem to apply that well to me. For me, I usually do a clean install when installing the OS and my computer is pretty much under regular regrades instead of building a new one..

If those are the "reasons", they're rather pathetic

Once in a while you should reinstall Windows... It's not glamorous but it's a reality you have to accept due to the OS'es nature (in contrast you rarely need a reason to reinstall Linux).

I've used both the Win7 beta and RTM, and I got to say, it's a worthy update if you run on XP. The cost is indeed expensive, but in Europe you can get a 3 license version for 150 euros. It's not that bad really, compared to software price in general.

MS did a good job with Win7 so I'll support them this round

This should be called "7 Reasons why you're dumb." XP is long dead, stop using this piece of crap and upgrade so we can start getting some DX 11 games. It's the idiots that make adoption rates slower.

Many of the people outside knows NOTHING! If fact, if you are using third party software(crack software), then its more recommended to use XP instead. Vista and Win7 got a lot of problem using that. Of course, if you are using the PC for net surfing, watching movie, gaming besides doing some other things like multimedia stuff, then carry-on.... else, XP will be the best choice... after all, XP is still the highest vote for user friendly OS. its up to your own comfortable zone..
