Why can't we have 8GB? For gaming, CS4 design, video rendering, software development, audio workstation, etc.

With 8GB, disable swap file and you will feel that windows is slightly faster without swap file.

In the end...the HDD is the limitation for the OS usually.

Make a RAM Drive

Faster than SSD

Put that 8 GB to use ! (PCIE) with 12 GB and no swap file !

eh my com now also having this problem. I have 1.5GB installed but only 512 is usable?

just recently have this problem, was wondering why my PC kept freezing lol

i also having the same problem, i have 4gb of team elite ddr3 ram, but just like your case, only 3gb is usable, when i go to check in resource monitor (type resource monitor under search) it say that the left over 1gb is for hardware reserve, only 3 gb can be use.. anyone know why? what is this hardware reserve ?

i think my problem is with faulty ram.
tried taking them out 1 by 1 and problem's solved now
but only 1GB left until i got time RMA lol

That one is abit the version of windows you are using is X86 architecture , 32-bit . With a X64 architecture and 64-bit, you can utilise more than 3gb of memory. I dont know what the other 1gb is doing in the mean time , im on 32-bit here too.
