Is this an equipment or composition question?

It was composed such that the attention dwelled to the rear, hence making the bokeh more distracting.

You can attempt to compose tighter to make bokeh work for you, hiding the flaws of the equipment and execute the intention.

Bokeh is supposed to compliment the photo or surrounding.
More does not always mean good.
Horlick and Mocha powder are great tools of disguise.
They make people look better in certain lighting conditions.

IMO I would actually stop down for that shot , too much bokeh already on my side. A little underexposed as well IMO.

Reduce the bokeh by stopping down (hide the flaw).

a feeling i have right now deep in my heart...it is so painful that i cant express in words, the closest one i can match is this




taken with my Nikon D90 with 50mm lens @ f/2.. didnt have my kit lens with me during that time when i took the pic
