My suggestion, sell off the 28-300 VC and get the tamron 17-50 2.8. It will be a killer combination with your d700. There seems to be handshake in your pictures at 300mm. a 17-50 will sove all problems

D700 is a full frame cam. Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 is a cropped sensor optimized piece of glass. So, that combo wont be a killer.

my mistake. Forgot about the FF cabability. To TS, this lens will solve almost everything.

Sigma - Lenses

Cheaper version, about same price as your 28 300
Sigma - Lenses

if i am not wrong other brands have some lenses for FF too, forget about nikon it is just too expensive if you are not earning from photography, unless u will want to spend

nah. still love the 28-300 vc. with the lens you suggested, can't zoom in to them at all. if i wanted this kind of range, i would have gotten 20ish to 70ish range lenses already, but i'm not looking at this kind of range, in the end, i'm getting a lens that doesn't do what i want. so ya, it doesn't solve anything. a 70-200 f2.8 would probably be better, but i don't like lugging many big lenses around if i do not know what i will be shooting for the day. also, given the short range, bumping up the iso on the high iso excellent d700 would probably compensate the the f2.8 in the shorter lenses.
